Stepping into May with Movement & Music
At Dee View Court Neuro Care Centre, May has been a month of movement and motivation, as residents and staff alike embraced the May Step Challenge. Running from Monday, 5th to Saturday, 31st May, the challenge has generated a wonderful buzz around the centre as we worked together to promote gentle exercise and fresh air through fun activities.
Staff have been logging their steps via smartphones and smartwatches, while our dedicated physiotherapy team has been supporting residents in recording their distances during therapy sessions. With mapped-out routes across the building—including corridors, loops, and even the distance to the local Morrisons—everyone has had the chance to contribute to our collective journey. Our ambitious target is to collectively walk our way to Aberdeen landmarks, such as Duthie Park and Old Aberdeen.
A special highlight of the step challenge has been the launch of Tom’s Walks. These outings have been a big hit, with one even covering 1.6 miles through the local area. Tom led the way on this walk around the local area to track those steps and miles. Tom was a superb guide and everyone had a fabulous time. Tom pointed out the sights of Kincorth, and there was lots of banter along the way. 1.6 miles was covered, which is a great achievement for all participants.
The momentum didn’t stop there. Movement to music sessions have been another joyful feature of the month, with our wonderful resident Kate leading the first resident-led class on May Day Monday. Participants chose a favourite song, from M People’s Moving on Up to Eminem’s Without Me, while Kate guided the group through gentle upper limb movements. Ayesha, our RT Supervisor, said, "Kate did a brilliant job getting everyone moving. Her fellow residents were full of compliments on how she did and are looking forward to her leading again."

Saturday brought with it a lovely, spontaneous burst of celebration as residents, staff, and visitors enjoyed a pop-up cocktail-making class, complete with karaoke and a few laughs. Apple juice, blue raspberry and grenadine may have been a surprising combo, but as Ayesha said, "We had karaoke and good vibes. It was a lovely atmosphere with staff, residents and visitors thoroughly enjoying the afternoon."

To wind down from all the excitement, residents enjoyed a 'Spring Awakening' garden spa session in our peaceful Garden Room, with calming blue lighting, soothing lemongrass and ylang ylang aromas, and a range of spa treatments including face, feet and hand masks along with hand and arm massages with specialist hand massage balms. Some residents opted for cooling under-eye masks, whilst some opted to just enjoy the environment over a chat.
Residents remarked that they came out feeling refreshed and pampered. Alison, who was a first-time visitor to the garden room, said it was her new favourite space, and she absolutely loved the afternoon.

International Nurses Day
This month, we also paid our respect and appreciation to our wonderful nursing team on International Nursing Day, and to two of our lovely residents who had nursing careers.
